Metallized Carbon Corporation manufactures solid, self-lubricating, carbon and graphite bushings, bearings and self-aligning bearing assemblies that are non-galling, dimensionally stable and have high compressive strength. Metcar materials are solid and homogeneous throughout; there are no coatings, plating or surface treatments to wear out. These bearings are suitable for use in a variety of severe service applications ranging from high temperatures, 1200 F, to cryogenic temperatures, -450 F, harsh caustics and strong acids, dry or submerged.

Metcar self-lubricating bearings and bearing assemblies are being employed successfully in diverse industrial equipment and environments including pumps, meters, valves, conveyors, continuous dryers, furnaces, ovens, and mixing equipment.

The company's products have helped solve severe service lubrication problems in the toughest environments and most demanding industries such as nuclear, fossil fuel and alternative power generation, aircraft and aerospace, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, automotive, pulp and paper processing, textile manufacturing, and water and sewage treatment.

Some design advantages you can expect from Metcar bearing products:
Outstanding wear resistance Excellent Chemical Compatibility
Good Thermal Conductivity Low Coefficient of Friction
Will Not Cold Flow Dimensionally Stable

Some Common Metcar® Grades for Standard Products

Metcar 1010 Babbitt is our most popular and inexpensive self-lubricating bearing grade. Successfully used for countless dry applications at room temperature up to 350 degrees F. Metcar 1010 incorporating an anti-friction metal is unexcelled for submerged applications due to its high corrosive resistance and long wear life. This grade can be used for high loads at medium speeds or medium loads at high speeds. Typical applications include: Pump and Meter Bearings, Seal Rings and Thrust Washers, Guide Bushings, Roll Bearings for textile and plating equipment.

Metcar 1126 Bronze is capable of withstanding relatively high pounding and shock load. Suitable for difficult non-lubricated applications dry or submerged at temperatures up to 550 degrees F. This strong dense bearing grade gives outstanding wear life under heavy and medium loads at low and high speeds. Typical applications include bearings for textile spinning, weaving and dryer equipment, instrument and apparatus bearings, rotary system joints, seals and varied equipment where temperatures run as high as 550 degrees F. Bearings and thrust washers of this grade can be promptly manufactured to your specifications.

Metcar 1515 Copper is best known for its ability to operate without lubrication under extremely heavy loading at temperatures up to 750 degrees F. To illustrate its durability a typical oven bearing with loading of 4000 lbs at 15 RPM. operating at 700 degrees F in use for 8 years is not uncommon. Another unique property of this self-lubricating, high temperature bearing is its excellent current carrying characteristic. Typical maintenance free applications include bearing and thrust washers for kilns, kiln cars, oven dryers, furnaces, dust and fume collectors, ventilating dampers, hot conveyors, high temperature seals, current carrying bearings and many others.

Metcar 2500 High Temperature was especially developed for applications (700 - 1000 degrees F). Metcar 2500 has been treated with an oxidation inhibitor giving it greatly increased oxidation resistance and long life. Typical high temperature applications are the same as used with the preceding Metcar 1515 Copper except at the higher temperature range of 700 - 1000 degrees F.

*Metcar 9800 High Temperature was especially developed for applications in the 1000 - 1100 degrees F temperature range. This bearing grade is a result of years of experience in the high temperature bearing field. Metcar 9800 is completely self-lubricating and is used on typical applications as the preceding grades Metcar 1515 Copper and Metcar 2500 except where 1000 - 1100 degrees F operating temperatures are required.

All the above grades can be furnished in Metcar Bearing Assemblies.

Other Grades. The preceding grades cover a wide range of applications and are generally suitable for most operating conditions. For unusual or special applications over 300 grades of Metcar have been developed and are in current use. Many grades are metal reinforced with special alloys, Babbitts, Silver, Antimony, Nickel Alloys, etc.

* These materials contain an oxidation inhibitor which is hydroscopic and can exude in high moisture environments, causing the bearing to adhere to the shaft. These materials should be stored in a dry location until ready for use.

Metcar Grade M-11 is our most economical unimpregnated, self-lubricating, carbon-graphite grade. Metcar M-11 has good self-lubricating qualities and good wear resistance when running dry at relatively low load and low speed. Typical applications include damper bearings, dryer bearings, and guide bearings at temperatures less than 650 degrees F. All Metcar standard plain bearings, thrust washers, pillow blocks, and flange blocks can be supplied with grade M-11 bearing material. Bearings of this grade can also be manufactured to your size specifications.

Metcar Grade M-400 is recommended for food processing applications. It is a non-porous, resin impregnated, carbon-graphite material with excellent self-lubricating properties. Typical applications, include bearings that run submerged in liquid food and bearings that run dry in food baking ovens to 500 degrees F. All Metcar standard plain bearings, thrust washers, pillow blocks, and flange blocks can be supplied with grade M-400 bearing material. Bearings of this grade can also be manufactured to your size specifications.
